Security advice concerning stolen or misplaced mobile phones and associated gadgets has been made public by the United Arab Emirates' Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA).

UAE Issues Security Guidance for Lost or Stolen Mobile Devices

This initiative aims to raise awareness about the procedures for reporting such incidents and underscores the growing significance of mobile devices in daily life.

Notification Process:

  • The TDRA urges the public to notify UAE telecom service providers promptly in case of the loss or theft of mobile devices.
  • Various communication channels are available for reporting incidents, including customer service call centers, live chat services on websites, and other affiliated channels.

Procedures for Reporting:

  • Once an incident is reported, the service provider verifies the identity of the person submitting the report.
  • The consumer is informed of all terms and circumstances pertaining to the blocking process, and the details and specs of the stolen or lost equipment are confirmed.
  • The device's International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) is added to the blacklisted devices database.
  • Within 24 hours of receiving the report, the service provider initiates the block on the device, preventing its connection to any wireless network in the UAE.

Protective Measures:

TDRA stresses that people should take precautions to secure their mobile devices, such as using passwords, two-factor authentication, fingerprint or face recognition, and device monitoring.

Time Frame for Block and Unblock:

In the event that the device is located and restored, the service provider will be able to unblock it within the same timeframe that the blocking process begins (which is 24 hours).

Saif Bin Ghelaita's Statement:

Saif Bin Ghelaita, Director of Technology Development Affairs at TDRA, underscores the significance of these procedures in enhancing the security and well-being of the Emirati community.

As The surge in electronic services has led to an increased reliance on mobile phones for various transactions, necessitating additional measures to safeguard security and privacy.

Precautionary Measures:

  • Customers are advised to provide precise information about personal identity, the time and location of the incident, and device specifications.
  • Adherence to service provider recommendations and coordination with relevant authorities is emphasized.

The UAE is serious about protecting its citizens' privacy and safety, and TDRA's security recommendations for stolen or lost mobile devices show that. The authority's goal is to improve customer satisfaction and simplify the telecoms experience for UAE customers through the implementation of these procedures and the promotion of preventive measures.
