UAE Police Cautions drivers against making noise in residential areas

Asma Ahmed - | UAE

Recently, Abu Dhabi Police issued a warning regarding the disruptive behavior that some drivers, particularly young people, exhibit while operating vehicles.

This behavior encompasses excessive noise, disturbances, and reckless driving, notably in sandy areas adjacent to residential zones and communities.

The authorities highlighted the detrimental effects of such conduct, emphasizing that the loud noise generated by vehicles not only disrupts public peace but also induces panic and tension among fellow drivers, road users, and residents, particularly vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and the unwell.

In response to this issue, Abu Dhabi Police urged motorcycle riders to adhere strictly to safety protocols and regulations. They emphasized the importance of exercising caution to prevent disturbances in sandy areas and family camps. Additionally, motorcycle users were reminded to comply with security measures while operating their vehicles and to refrain from modifying them for use on public roads. These measures aim to enhance safety and minimize disruptions caused by vehicle-related noise in residential areas.

Furthermore, the authorities encouraged the public to promptly report vehicles causing disturbances in residential neighborhoods by contacting the Command and Control Center at 999. They underscored their commitment to taking stringent legal action against drivers who intentionally cause noise disturbances. According to Article 20 of the Traffic Law, such drivers face fines of 2,000 dirhams and 12 traffic points for "driving a vehicle that causes noise." Similarly, Article 73 stipulates fines of 1,000 dirhams and 12 traffic points for unauthorized modifications to a vehicle's engine or chassis.

In addition to fines, offending vehicles may be subject to impoundment for 30 days under Law No. 5 of 2020 in Abu Dhabi regarding vehicle impoundment for unauthorized modifications. The release of impounded vehicles incurs a financial penalty of 10,000 dirhams, with the vehicle detained until payment is made for a maximum period of three months.

Failure to settle the dues may result in the vehicle being auctioned publicly. These measures underscore the seriousness with which Abu Dhabi Police are addressing noise disturbances caused by vehicle-related misconduct and their commitment to upholding public safety and tranquility in residential areas.
