Two health institutions in Abu Dhabi have been temporarily shut down by the Department of Health due to a number of infractions
After uncovering a number of breaches in compliance on the part of the two healthcare facilities, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), which serves as the supervisor of the medical industry in the emirate, has made the decision to temporarily close both the healthcare centre and the health complex.
These infractions include the use of materials and tools that have passed their expiration date, the failure to comply with the norms and rules for the disposal of medical waste and the storage of blood units, and the failure to adhere to safety protocols and methods for the prevention of infection.
The Department of Health found various breaches committed by the two healthcare facilities, one of which was the absence of authorised physicians practising in the specialties that were specified in the facility's licence, which was given by the Department of Health. In addition, the infractions included a failure to comply with the engineering and technical layout of the facility's design, which had been approved by the Department of Health, as well as a failure on the part of members of the medical staff to administer the vaccines that were ordered.
The Department of Health has indicated that this decision was made primarily to safeguard the health and safety of patients, as well as to let the facilities to take any and all required procedures to rectify the situation. The Department stated that its Inspection and Control team would undertake future visits to these institutions, to ensure that the correctional processes are being applied in the right manner.
The Department of Health in Abu Dhabi has issued a call to all healthcare facilities operating in the Emirate to comply with its policies and regulations in order to maintain the health and safety of all members of the community, as well as to resume its operations and provide healthcare services in accordance with the best practises that have been established internationally.
