UAE announces remote work for the 3rd day in Sharjah government

Asma Ahmed - | UAE

Government employees in Sharjah will be working remotely on April 18, as stated on Wednesday, due to the severe weather conditions prevalent in the UAE. Government institutions in the emirate have been ordered to operate remotely for three days in a row as a precautionary step in the face of the severe rains that have been sweeping over the United Arab Emirates.

In response to the persistently unstable weather conditions affecting the UAE, the government of Sharjah has decided to extend remote work for its employees for another day, as announced on Wednesday. This marks the third consecutive day that government workers in the emirate will be operating from home as a precautionary measure amid heavy rains.

The decision to continue remote work was made to ensure the safety of government personnel and mitigate the potential risks associated with traveling to workplaces during adverse weather conditions. However, employees whose roles require their physical presence at their workplace are exempt from this arrangement, ensuring continuity in essential services.

Since Tuesday, government offices across the country have transitioned to remote operations, with only vital sectors maintaining an on-site presence. This proactive approach aligns with efforts to minimize disruptions to public services while prioritizing the well-being of employees.

Additionally, private sector companies have been urged to prioritize the safety of their staff and consider implementing remote work arrangements where feasible. Despite these advisories, some private sector employees have faced challenges navigating the inclement weather to fulfill their professional duties.

The decision to extend remote work for Sharjah's government employees underscores the government's commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of its workforce during adverse weather conditions. By taking proactive measures and allowing flexibility in work arrangements, the government aims to maintain operational continuity while safeguarding the health and safety of its employees and the public.
