The Department of Immigration and Citizenship in Canada announced new immigration paths for Sudanese citizens to facilitate their travel to Canada and obtain a Canadian residency visa, given the ongoing conflicts in the country of Sudan.

Accepting more than 3,250 applications for residency in Canada

The Canadian Department of Immigration and Citizenship explained that it will accept up to about 3,250 applications from applicants as of February 27, 2024, whether from individual applicants or families, as the Canadian government will allow you permanent residency.

Permanent residency fees will be waived

The Canadian government has confirmed that it will waive the right to permanent residency fees, in addition to providing free settlement services to individuals, to ensure that Sudanese citizens successfully obtain permanent residency visas in Canada through this path.

Those eligible for permanent residency visas in Canada are Sudanese

The Canadian government imposes specific pathways to facilitate Sudanese citizens obtaining permanent residency visas in Canada for Saudi citizens. In order to be eligible to benefit from this pathway, applicants must:

  • Have been residing in Sudan since April 15th, 2023.
  • Not having another nation to return to besides Sudan or Canada;
  • Be the child (of any age), grandchild, sibling, parent, or grandparent of an eligible anchor.
  • Please provide a statutory statement from your anchor indicating that they will support you and any accompanying family members for one year and will not take any financial help from you or your family.
  • Plan to reside in a province or territory other than Quebec,
  • Not accepted for reasons other than financial.
  • Individuals may apply if their spouse or common-law partner is missing, presumed dead, deceased, or unable to leave Sudan, or if they are the child, sibling, parent, or grandparent of an eligible anchor willing to support them. They must also meet all other eligibility requirements.

Documents required to obtain a Canada visa for Sudanese

When Sudanese apply for a visa, they must verify that all necessary paperwork are in order, since certain visas demand additional documentation. Failure to acquire these documents will result in the application being denied. The information regarding the needed papers is as follows:

  1. All needed paperwork must be translated into English or French and connected to the original documents.
  2. Submit a visa application form that includes all needed details.
  3. 1 copy of proof of payment of costs for obtaining a Canadian visa.
  4. A high-quality copy of the passport information or a copy of the travel document with the passport number, date of issuance, and expiration, as well as the photo, name, and date of birth.
  5. The passport is valid for six months from the day the Canada visa is issued, and it must have one blank page.
  6. Two personal photographs with the name and date of birth on the reverse.
  7. If the visa applicant is married, provide a copy of the marriage certificate.
