As hotels in the United Arab Emirates and the surrounding region seek to expand their presence and launch new brands in response to the increased demand for staycations and visitors, it is projected that more than 4,000 new jobs will be created in the hospitality sector.
These leading companies, which include IHG Hotels and Resorts, Rotana, Ascott, and H World International, among others, intend to introduce their new brands to the region. This will result in the creation of a significant number of employment opportunities in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and other countries in the region.
The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) forecasts that the travel and tourism industry in the United Arab Emirates will generate 23,500 new jobs in 2024, bringing the overall number of employment opportunities to 833,000. WTTC predicted that by the year 2034, the travel and tourism industry in the United Arab Emirates will have employed 928,000 people, with one in nine residents working in the sector. This implies that the industry will generate approximately 95,000 new jobs between 2024 and 2034.
According to Philip Barnes, the CEO of Rotana, the company employs 10,562 people in total and plans to grow that number by ten percent, or approximately 1,050, by the end of 2024.
35 of Rotana's 76 hotels are currently under management in the United Arab Emirates. To this point in 2024, it has introduced three new properties in the area, resulting in the addition of 413 new keys.
Its regional pipeline consists of nine new properties in Saudi Arabia and seven in the United Arab Emirates. By the year 2026, it intends to have added an additional thirty hotels, and it is also actively expanding into other markets.
IHG Hotels and Resorts has 33 hotels and 10,000 keys in the United Arab Emirates, according to Haitham Mattar, who is the managing director for India, the Middle East, and Africa at the company.
Mattar also mentioned that within the next three to five years, nine additional hotels will be able to produce 2,000 keys.
"On average, we take in 300 keys for each hotel, and we have an average of 1.5 staff per key." He stated that because we are bringing in more than 2,000 additional keys, we will be looking at more than 3,000 new job opportunities.
As H World International expands its operations in the United Arab Emirates and the region, particularly in Saudi Arabia, the company intends to hire hundreds of workers, according to Siegfried Nierhaus, vice president and head of development for the Middle East, India, and Africa at H World International.
