Law enforcement officials in Abu Dhabi recently pulled over a number of motorists, but instead of issuing them traffic penalties, they gave them free gasoline cards.

As part of the ongoing Arab Traffic Week, Abu Dhabi's Happiness Patrol officers have returned to the roads to reward drivers who adhere to traffic regulations. The week's awareness efforts include this program.

Lieutenant Colonel Nasser Abdullah Al Saadi, the head of the section at the Security Media Department, claims that in addition to Adnoc petrol cards, good drivers also received gifts and pamphlets on road safety.

This was not the first time that the Abu Dhabi Police Department had surprised courteous motorists. In recognition of their efforts, the authorities have been giving them unique presents, such as television gift sets and certificates with their names on them.

Occasionally, other emirates also carry out similar efforts.

In conjunction with Arab Traffic Week, we launched a campaign as part of our awareness initiatives.

Lieutenant Colonel Al Saadi stressed the need for drivers to maintain the practice of adhering to traffic laws and avoiding breaches for the sake of everyone's safety.

In addition, he stated that the purpose of Arab Traffic Week, which will continue until May 10th, is to achieve safety by increasing the public's knowledge of how essential it is to maintain compliance with the regulations and to steer clear of any distractions while driving.

Maj. Nasser Saleh bin Badouh Al Darmaki, head of the Happiness Patrol Team at the Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate, stated that the recognition of these motorists is a component of the efforts to improve "traffic positivity," which can contribute to the maintenance of safe roadways.
