UAE schools send books and laptops to flood-affected students

Asma Ahmed - | UAE

After an exceptional downpour the week before, a considerable number of inhabitants residing in Al Suyoh, Sharjah, were compelled to seek refuge in hotels as a consequence of the inundation caused by a rampaging wadi.

One of the numerous obstacles encountered by impacted households was the substantial concern regarding the disruption to education, which was further compounded by the depletion of school supplies caused by the flooding. Many students were consequently unable to participate in their academic pursuits, including remote learning.

However, amidst this adversity, Hessa Al Zarihi, the director of the Zayed Educational Complex in Sharjah, emerged as a beacon of hope and support. Recognizing the pressing need to assist students in continuing their education, she embarked on a remarkable endeavor. Personally traversing from one hotel to another, Al Zarihi undertook the task of delivering essential school materials, such as books and laptops, to affected students and their families. This compassionate initiative garnered widespread acclaim and gratitude from the community.

Faisal Al Salman, a parent whose child benefited from Al Zarihi's efforts, commended her for enabling students to persist with their studies despite the challenging circumstances. Al Zarihi's commitment extended beyond mere material assistance; she maintained regular communication with students and families, ensuring their well-being, and established a social platform for parents to voice their needs.

Accompanying the educational supplies was a heartfelt gesture—a cake bearing the uplifting message "Keep going." Such acts of kindness, amidst adversity, profoundly touched the hearts of recipients, symbolizing resilience and solidarity in the face of adversity. Mohammed Al Qasim, the general manager of the Emirates Foundation for School Education, lauded Al Zarihi as an inspirational figure and a testament to the unwavering dedication within the educational community.

A mother expressed heartfelt gratitude to Al Zarihi, emphasizing the positive impact her actions had on her daughter's morale. In a time of uncertainty and upheaval, Al Zarihi's unwavering commitment to supporting students exemplifies the spirit of compassion and community resilience, serving as a shining example for educators and individuals alike.
