A 33-year-old Calgary man, Ambrose Walton, tragically lost his life in a vehicle crash in northwest Australia, where he had been working at mine camps.
This devastating incident occurred just weeks before he was set to return home for a family wedding.
Walton was supposed to meet a friend in Karratha on January 23, but he never showed up, according to the Australian police, who contacted his Calgary family. Worried about his location, a search was launched, and around 90 kilometers from Karratha, Walton's wrecked car was found. He tragically died at the site.
Ambrose Walton, who grew up with seven siblings in the Whitehorn community of northeast Calgary, had a close-knit family. He graduated from Bishop McNally High School and has been working in Australia since November 2019, where he finds joy in exploring different parts of the world.
His sister, Emily DeWolfe, reflected on Walton's love for travel, recounting his experiences in Ireland, Costa Rica, and various locations across Canada and the United States. Despite his ventures abroad, Walton always considered Calgary his home. DeWolfe shared that he often joked about finding his future wife and building a house in Calgary for his future family.
Despite the distance, Walton seemed happiest in Australia, emphasizing his strong connection to Calgary. His untimely death has left his family grieving, especially considering the upcoming family wedding, which he eagerly anticipated. Walton was scheduled to return to Calgary on February 7, a trip that was meant to reunite him with his family and celebrate a joyous occasion.
The unfortunate loss of Ambrose has saddened his family, who were looking forward to his return for a family wedding that was about to be. Everyone who knew and loved him feels a hole in their hearts because of his sudden passing. The original intention for Ambrose Walton's return to Calgary on February 7 had been to celebrate a happy occasion with his family, but destiny had other ideas.
