The Civil Aviation Corporation of India has cancelled around 86 domestic and international flights as a result of nearly 300 flight crews calling in sick en masse in the early morning hours of Wednesday.
According to the official website of the Indian television channel "NDTV," the cancellation of flights had a catastrophic impact on the "India Express" airline, particularly due to passengers who did not show up and switched off their mobile phones.
A multitude of travelers voiced their discontent on various social media platforms, affirming that they incurred substantial financial and emotional setbacks as a result of these abrupt cancellations.
The company issued a response to the travelers, acknowledging that it was in contact with its personnel and assuring to provide compensation to the affected passengers or provide them the option to reschedule their trip dates without any charge.
The walkout was prompted by the employees' dissatisfaction with the inequitable conditions at work following the merger with the Tata Civil Aviation Group. The new recruitment procedure involved offering certain "merged" personnel job positions that exceeded their qualifications, while "India Express" staff were given lower positions while possessing greater practical qualifications.
Conversely, Airbus, the European aircraft manufacturer, secured a significant contract at the Paris International Air Show. The announcement marked the largest order ever placed for civil aircraft. Additionally, the French President attended the event, which attracted a large crowd of participants after a four-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
IndiGo, the Indian low-cost airline, placed an order for 500 aircraft. This order was made in response to the impact of the Corona virus on the aviation industry in 2021, which led to the cancellation of the Le Bourget trade fair. The trade fair, which is held every two years, was last organized before the pandemic. A duplicate of it in the year 2019.
