The Canadian government has recently revealed that those who qualify for simplified passport renewal procedures will be able to finish this process online beginning in the fall.
The same day that the passport redesign was unveiled, Minister Sean Fraser of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) made a statement stating that eligible Canadians will be able to upload the required paperwork and images online to a secure government website as part of this new procedure.
The following groups will be able to benefit from Canada's future online passport renewal system as of May 2023:
- Those whose passports expire within the last fifteen years
- Those whose passports were misplaced, pilfered, or destroyed
To be clear, the paperwork needed for a conventional passport renewal differs from that for a streamlined one.
Simplified passport renewals simply require the following four elements, whereas conventional passport renewals call for the applicant to produce original documents (such as proof of citizenship or photo identification):
- two pictures
- two citations
- filled-out forms
- Relevant costs
The IRCC anticipates that its online procedures, which it will roll out later this year, will expedite and simplify the passport application process. New passport applicants are still need to use Service Canada, the government's conventional application procedure.
advantages of a passport from Canada
Travel documents are what most people refer to as passports. These identity documents are actually much more than simply what you provide at the airport before departing on a trip or returning from a holiday.
1. Visa-free entry into 185 countries
A 2022 study by Henley & Partners states that bearers of Canadian passports are not have to obtain a visa in order to enter 185 countries. According to the most recent Global Passport Rankings, Canada is tied for eighth place, which means that Canadian passport holders enjoy some of the finest levels of travel to other nations without having to worry about applying for or receiving a visa.
2. The capacity to keep both a Canadian and a domestic passport (being a citizen of Canada)
Dual citizens are permitted to keep both their Canadian and passports from their native countries. Canadian dual nationals are permitted to hold as many passports as they are qualified for, provided that their home country likewise permits them to do so.
3. Advantages of citizenship in Canada
Obtaining a passport in Canada does not confer citizenship rights. Should you obtain one, it's due to your recent citizenship in Canada. After obtaining a Canadian passport, you will have all the same freedoms and rights as someone who was born here, among other things.
For instance, the ability to cast a ballot in an election is one of the most important rights granted to people of this nation.
More employment options, some of which are exclusive to Canadians with certain statuses (permanent resident, temporary resident, etc.), will also be advantageous to citizens of Canada.
