The Abu Dhabi Commercial Court of First Instance ruled to oblige a young man to pay 54,740 thousand UAE dirhams. He rented a car from a car rental company and kept it for 295 days, and refused to pay the rent for the car.
The Abu Dhabi Court also ruled that the young man was obligated to pay the compulsory interest on renting the car at the rate of 5% annually in return for delaying the payment of the rent due for renting the car for a period of 295 days and refusing to pay the rent.
The car rental company in the UAE is demanding compensation
During the lawsuit it filed against a young man, the car rental company in the UAE demanded that the young man be obligated to pay 54 thousand and 240 dirhams to the company, while obliging him to pay 2,000 UAE dirhams, while also obligating him to pay 5% from the date of refraining from paying the rent.
It also demanded that the company oblige the defendant to pay the fees, expenses, and attorney’s fees due to the violations committed on the vehicle, along with paying the late rent.
Obliging the defendant to pay the car rent
It is worth noting that the Abu Dhabi Court ruled that the young man was obligated to pay the late rent amount, based on the contract concluded between the two parties, which includes paying a daily rent of 300 UAE dirhams.
However, the renter returned the car after 295 days of possession, without paying any money for the rental, or even paying the traffic fines on the car.
Committing 6 violations worth 2,400 dirhams
It was found that the renter had committed 6 violations worth 2,400 UAE dirhams at the time of renting the car, and the Abu Dhabi Court obliged him to pay these violations, in his capacity as owner of the vehicle and responsible for it and the resulting violations.
The court also found that the defendant paid an amount of 36,660 thousand UAE dirhams, while the total value of the car rental reached 88,500 thousand UAE dirhams, and thus the defendant is obligated to pay 54 thousand dirhams.
