The UAE announces a hike in taxi tariffs

The United Arab Emirates has announced that taxi fares will be increased.

As a result of the Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) announcement that the flag fall, which is the minimum rate, will be increased to Dh20 at some sites across Dubai, those who are celebrating New Year's Eve will have to pay a higher price for taxi rides. Taxis in Dubai typically charge a minimum cost of Dh12 each ride.

New tariff rates

The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) has made an announcement on the implementation of new flag fall rates for both ordinary metered taxis and Hala Taxi service at chosen locations and times.

At the World Trade Centre, Expo City, and the Global Village, the flag fall rate will now be set at Dh20. This change will take effect at the locations of major events such as exhibitions and international conventions. Additionally, this will be relevant on the days that coincide with the other important events.

Dynamic price doubling for taxi services

Additionally, the dynamic fares for Hala Taxi services will be doubled during the New Year's Eve night, beginning at six o'clock on Sunday, December 31, 2023, and continuing until six o'clock the following morning, Monday, January 1, 2024, at the places that have been chosen for the New Year's Eve fireworks display.

Departure fees for basic taxi service

At these places and during the hours that have been specified, the departure fee for a basic taxi service will be twenty dirhams. These fare modifications can be anticipated in and near sites where fireworks displays are scheduled to take place, taking into consideration the plans for the road closures that will take place on New Year's Eve.

According to the statement released by the RTA, the purpose of these modifications is to continuously improve and develop both regular taxi services and the e-hail ride of Hala Taxi. This is especially important during major events such as New Year's Eve, which typically sees a significant increase in demand for taxi services from residents, visitors, and tourists traveling to Dubai from all over the world.

The flag fall fare is a predetermined sum of money that is charged at the beginning of a taxi ride and that you are required to pay as a component of the overall expenditure for the ride.
