The UAE Police issued a fine of 1,000 dirhams and 10 traffic points to violators who do not stop their car when the stop arm for school buses is opened.

A fine of 1,000 dirhams and 10 traffic fines

The police explained that drivers who do not adhere to a distance of no less than five meters when school buses open a stop arm, to ensure that students cross safely, avoid a fine of 1,000 dirhams and 10 traffic points.

This contribution comes from the police in the United Arab Emirates, to ensure the safety of students during their movement to and from their schools is a duty for all parties, warning that the violation of interrupting the “stop” signal is monitored electronically.

Controls for using a stop lever for school buses

Police agencies in Abu Dhabi also require bus drivers to follow the regulations for using the “Stop” lever, so as not to cause obstruction to traffic, including stopping the bus in front of the student’s house, unless there is an obstruction or road works.

It is necessary not to stop on highways and main roads, or at public bus stops located on main roads, because they are considered unsafe areas for students to drop off and board.

Appealing a violation for failure to stop

Abu Dhabi Police also clarified that drivers can file a complaint against a violation of failure to stop upon seeing the “Stop” arm, and cancel it if it is proven that the school bus driver did not adhere to the regulations on its use, and opened it in undesignated places and parking lots.

It is also noteworthy that the UAE police have announced the activation of the “Stop” arm specification, and its presence on school buses is mandatory, against the backdrop of accidents involving students, due to their unexpected movement after getting off the bus.

Given that some students are walking in front of the bus, and a vehicle crosses, leading to accidents, vehicle drivers have been obligated to maintain a five-meter safe distance from the school bus when opening the arm, so that the driver has a greater view of what may be happening around the school bus. Especially since some students may perform random actions, such as running in the street, even if they are dropped off from the right.
