Abu Dhabi Police in the United Arab Emirates issued a warning to all drivers about one of the common mistakes they make that makes their car vulnerable to theft.
Risks of leaving the vehicle running
One of the most prevalent mistakes that police in the United Arab Emirates see among drivers is leaving their cars running while shopping.
Or even as they are running errands from shops, gas stations, ATMs, or going down to pray, they are robbed by some lurking weak-minded individuals.
High security awareness from the Traffic Director in the UAE
The Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate in the United Arab Emirates stated that it is interested in increasing security awareness.
She also emphasized the need of not being irresponsible in leaving automobiles running, noting that some vehicle users may leave their children, particularly infants, inside the cars while they are running.
Traffic rules in the UAE
The Abu Dhabi Police Department clarified that Article Five of Clause Four of the Traffic Rules requires the driver to "refrain from parking the vehicle in places where parking is prohibited."
If the driver is compelled to stop the automobile on the side of the road, he must take all necessary precautions to protect the safety of traffic and not leave the vehicle running.
In addition to ensuring that the car is insured and that it does not move during his absence, Article No. 70 of the Federal Traffic Law states that "vehicle drivers' failure to adhere to traffic signs and instructions" results in a punishment of 500 dirhams.
