UAE rains: Sharjah will drop all traffic violations during the weather crisis

Asma Ahmed - | UAE

During the recent time of uncertain weather in the UAE, particularly in Sharjah, Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, issued an order waiving any traffic offenses committed by motorists.

This decision comes in response to the adverse effects of the "low surface pressure" phenomenon that affected the region from April 15th to April 16th, with April 16th being particularly severe due to the extension of this weather pattern and the occurrence of two waves of unstable weather.

The directive to drop traffic violations underscores the Sharjah Police's dedication to serving the community during these challenging times brought about by the aftermath of the weather depression experienced across the country. Last week, the UAE encountered its most substantial rainfall in 75 years, surpassing records dating back to 1949. The heavy rains led to widespread vehicle damage as roads became waterlogged and flooded in many areas.

As a result of the extreme weather, numerous motorists in the Emirates found themselves grappling with the consequences of the deluge. Vehicles suffered damages, and many individuals were compelled to abandon their cars on the roadside due to impassable, flooded roads. Negotiating through the rising floodwaters presented a perilous journey for motorists, adding to the already stressful situation.

In addition to the immediate challenges posed by the weather, motorists faced the prospect of incurring traffic violations as they navigated through the tumultuous conditions. The decision to waive these violations acknowledges the extraordinary circumstances faced by residents during the weather crisis. Moreover, it aims to alleviate some of the burdens experienced by motorists, who not only had to contend with the physical damage to their vehicles but also with the logistical challenges of repairs and recovery in the aftermath of the unprecedented rainfall.

The decision to waive traffic violations during the weather crisis in Sharjah demonstrates a proactive approach by authorities to support the community and mitigate the impact of natural disasters on residents and motorists.
