The police in the UAE impose strict traffic rules against violators, and if you are an Emirati citizen or resident of the UAE, you must be well aware of the laws in force within the emirate in which you live, to avoid falling under the penalty of the law.
Traffic violations in the Emirates may require the payment of large sums of money, and some may be punished by imprisonment, or having your car impounded for a specific period.
Car impoundment violations in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Some of the traffic violations in Abu Dhabi may be punished by impounding the car, according to UAE Traffic Law No. 5 of 2020 regarding impounding cars, as follows:
1- Crossing the red light
The car is impounded for 30 days, for drivers who jump the red light, and they are also fined 1,000 dirhams and 12 black traffic points, and their driving license is also suspended for 6 months.
In order to release the car after it was impounded as a result of a violation of crossing a red light in the Emirates, an amount of 50,000 thousand dirhams must be paid.
2- Reckless or dangerous driving
According to the Federal Traffic Law in the UAE and in accordance with Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017, which stipulates the rules for traffic control in the country, a fine of 2,000 dirhams is imposed for reckless driving.
The car is also impounded for a period of 60 days and 23 black points, and according to Abu Dhabi Traffic Law No. 5 of 2020, amounts of 50,000 thousand dirhams must be paid to release the impounded car.
3- Unlicensed road racing
For unlicensed and authorized car races, the car is impounded, and an amount of AED 50,000 must be paid to release the car.
