During the first half of this year, the General Directorate of Traffic at the Dubai Police impounded 4,172 cars and motorbikes owing to traffic offences and fundamental changes that increased their engine speed, created commotion, and made noise.
During a meeting evaluating its performance for the second quarter of this year, chaired by the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al-Marri, the department revealed that 8,786 bicycles and electric bikes were seized during the first six months of this year, due to the lack of commitment of its drivers to the technical requirements that must be met by the bike, according to Executive Council Resolution No. (13).) for the year 2022, regarding regulatory requirements.
In order to achieve strategic directions in reducing accident rates and the death index per 100,000 population, Al-Marri noted the administration's efforts in raising awareness about safety measures and adherence to traffic laws, in cooperation with its strategic partners from public administrations, police stations, and government agencies. Al-Marri emphasised the importance of the role played by the General Traffic Department in controlling traffic and enhancing public safety on roads. This was done in order to achieve strategic directions in reducing accident rates and the death index per 100,000 population.
On the other hand, according to statistics that were recently released by the Ministry of the Interior, the number of new licences for operating motorcycles increased by 80% in Fujairah over the course of the previous year. The number of licences that were issued by the Traffic and Patrols Department at the Fujairah Police General Command reached 7977, which is a significant increase from the number of licences that were issued the year before, which totaled 1663.
