Air Canada has revealed the cases in which passengers can obtain compensation from the company.
In the event of a three-hour flight delay, passengers are eligible to receive $400.
You are entitled to a refund if your flight is either postponed by more than three hours or canceled less than fifteen days prior to your scheduled departure because of events that are beyond the control of the airline.
It can manage common technological problems or crew shortages, but not weather, security risks, or strikes.
The criteria also mandate reimbursement for other causes, such as mechanical problems. Nevertheless, this section and the Bill of Rights as a whole are currently undergoing revision.
"'Technical issues' are more complex — they are always within the carrier's control, but depending on whether they are unexpected or not, they may or may not be classified as their problem," said the company.
If the flight is three hours or more late, passengers are entitled to $400. If it lands six hours late, they are entitled to $700. If it lands more than nine hours late, they are entitled to $1,000. This assumes that the cause is within the control of the airline.
Big carriers like Air Canada, WestJet, and Air Transat pay a disproportionately large amount in fees compared to smaller airlines like Air Lynx and Sunwing Airlines.
