The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai revealed the start of a huge project to develop one of the main streets in Dubai at a huge financial cost amounting to about 332 million UAE dirhams.
The authority announced that the street to be developed is Umm Sufim Street, from the intersection with Al Khail Road to the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road in Dubai.
Construction of an 800-meter tunnel on Umm Suqeim Street in Dubai
It is worth noting that the huge project includes the construction of an 800-metre-long tunnel, which includes a 4.6-kilometre extension, with advanced traffic lights.
It also includes developing the intersection of Umm Sufim Street with Al Barsha Street to the south near Al Malloum School, in addition to four lanes in each direction.
Connecting 4 strategic traffic hubs in Dubai
This huge project is scheduled to enhance connectivity between 4 strategic traffic hubs in Dubai, in accordance with what was announced by the Director of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, Mattar Al Tayer.
This project includes linking Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Zayed Road, and Emirates Road.
Capacity of 16 thousand cars per hour in both directions
It is also worth noting that this project will enhance the capacity of the main streets and up to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions with the smooth flow of traffic in Dubai.
The project will also contribute to reducing travel time in a record time between Tarr Al Khail and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road from 9.7 minutes to 3.89 minutes.
Completion of the initial phase of the project
It is noteworthy that the first phase of this huge project has been completed with the development of Umm Suqeim Street, through the construction of two bridges with a capacity of 3 lanes, the first lane extending from the eastern street parallel to Al-Asayel Street.
While the second lane crosses the Western Street parallel to First Al Khail Road, it also includes the construction of two advanced traffic signal intersections at the intersection of First Al Khail Road with Al Asayel Street.
Three bridges were also built on Umm Sufaim Street to enhance the project, in addition to a pedestrian bridge between Al Quoz and Al Barsha.
It is also worth noting that the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai opened a 500-meter-long bridge in 2020. This bridge is located at the intersection of Umm Suqeim Street with the entrances to the Dubai Hills and Al Barsha area.
