UAE government clarifies the procedures for canceling a residence visa

Radwa Saleh - | UAE

UAE Digital Government advised foreigners residing in the country to work or live, and who decided to leave the country permanently, to ensure that the procedures for canceling their residency visas and those of their sponsors are completed in accordance with established procedures.

The government stated that only the guarantor, or someone he delegates on his behalf (such as a representative, for example in the case of companies), can proceed with the procedures for canceling the residency visas he sponsored, and the sponsored person himself cannot implement the request without the permission and signature of the guarantor.

The government added that if the company decides to cancel the employee’s work residence visa, it must first submit a request to cancel the employment contract and the employee’s work card to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and the signature of both the employer and the employee is required, then the employer submits the cancellation request to the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship and Customs and port security.

The “Digital Government” added that the employer must cancel the employee’s work permit, by submitting a letter signed by the employee confirming that he has received all his salaries, entitlements, and end of service from the employer to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, noting that with regard to residence visas for family members such as the wife and children The guarantor must cancel the visa of his sponsor first before he can cancel his residence visa.

The government has also facilitated the process of submitting a request to cancel residency for foreigners, through accredited printing offices, or electronically through the platforms provided by the authorities concerned with issuing residence visas. The guarantor or host can visit one of the registered printing offices approved by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security.

The printing center will fill out the cancellation form on behalf of the guarantor and submit it to the Authority. The guarantor or host can also submit a cancellation request through the Authority’s electronic channels, such as the Authority’s website and smart application on the Google Play and App Store platforms.

The digital government called for access to all information related to the service (cancellation of residence permits) by visiting the website of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security https://icp.gov.ae/ and visiting the service (cancellation of residence permits of all types) website of the General Administration.
