UAE issues Stay-home advisory as heavy rains lash all 7 Emirates

Asma Ahmed - | UAE

Residents of the UAE are urged to remain indoors amidst severe weather conditions, where heavy rainfall has inundated streets and even led to the collapse of certain roads.

The National Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has emphasized the imperative for individuals to venture outside only in instances of dire necessity. Furthermore, the authority has provided guidance for motorists, advising them to park their vehicles in distant and elevated areas to mitigate the risk of flooding.

As a precautionary measure, schools have swiftly transitioned to online learning, while government employees have been instructed to fulfill their duties remotely on Tuesday and Wednesday. The weather bureau has issued warnings regarding the anticipated escalation of unstable weather patterns, expected to manifest in two distinct waves. The adverse conditions have already resulted in numerous vehicular breakdowns as drivers navigated waterlogged roads. Additionally, the atmospheric tumult has been punctuated by the resounding crashes of lightning and thunder, coupled with the pelting of oversized hailstones, which have inflicted damage to vehicle windshields. Reports have also surfaced concerning power outages affecting certain residential areas.

This marks the second occasion within two months wherein authorities have issued advisories urging residents to remain indoors due to inclement weather conditions. In March, similar precautions were implemented following the closure of routes leading to valleys and mountainous regions in response to the instability of prevailing weather patterns.

Amidst such challenges, cooperation and adherence to safety guidelines are paramount to ensuring the well-being of individuals and communities. By heeding the directives of relevant authorities and exercising caution, residents can contribute to minimizing the risks associated with adverse weather events and safeguarding their own welfare. It underscores the importance of preparedness and resilience in the face of unpredictable natural phenomena, highlighting the necessity for proactive measures to mitigate potential hazards and protect lives and property.
