A statement from the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship regarding the ID card

Abdallah Shahin - | UAE

The five-step process to get an ID card fast was recommended by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security.

Timely completion of health insurance and residency procedures, accurate addition of the transaction filer's phone number, submission of documents that are at least six months old, and, lastly, implementation of necessary amendments within the specified time frame (i.e., 30 days from the date of return) are all part of the process. Fingerprinting must be done within 30 days of application submission.

An individual can easily apply for a residence permit and identity card using the unified form, which can be accessed through the Authority's website or smart application. The application process starts with registering and creating an account, which serves as a digital ID. If you have already registered, you can access electronic services. Then, choose a service. As an alternative to the residence sticker that was previously printed on the passport, the following steps are required: issuing a residence permit and an ID card; submitting an application; reviewing and updating the retrieved data; paying the fees; and finally, receiving the ID card through approved delivery companies.

Customers are reminded by the Authority to always check the ID number for validity and expiration date before requesting renewal or replacement. It is important to verify the data entered in the electronic form before paying the fees to avoid any delays in completing the transaction. The accuracy of the data ensures that the form is completed quickly and on time.

Noting that "the data entered is subject to review and audit," she urged clients to double-check the accuracy of the email address, phone number, and delivery method provided in the electronic form.

Any person residing in the United Arab Emirates, whether they are a citizen of the UAE or a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council, is required by law to obtain an Emirates ID card.

Anyone falling into one of these categories must apply for and renew their ID card with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security.

The UAE national ID must be renewed no later than 30 days after its expiration date, according to the Authority. An additional fee will be charged for non-renewal. Prior to the card's expiration, the Authority notifies the user by text message.

The Authority has clarified that three groups will not be charged late fees for Emirates IDs: those who departed the country more than three months ago, those whose cards' validity periods ended after they left, and those whose cards expired after they were deported by administrative decision or order. The person's passport may have been confiscated due to ongoing legal proceedings; in such cases, proof in the form of a letter or receipt from the relevant authorities can be presented. Additionally, a family book and an individual who did not receive an identity card during the time before applying for citizenship in the state would suffice.
