Operations are back to normal at Dubai International Airport

Radwa Saleh - | UAE

Dubai Airports stated that it was able to return operational operations at Dubai International Airport to normal, thanks to the tireless efforts made to deal with the repercussions of the heavy rainfall witnessed in the United Arab Emirates, which is considered the heaviest in 75 years.

Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, explained that it was possible to reschedule flights at Dubai International Airport to its normal route faster than the previously established time plan, as the airport currently operates at a rate of 1,400 flights per day.

Griffiths continued by saying that thanks to the efforts made, the roads leading to the airport and its surroundings were completely free of water accumulations, which helped in the return of all facilities, manpower, and logistical services to work normally again and at full capacity.

Griffiths pointed to the great challenges faced by the air sector as a result of the heavy rains, as 2,155 flights were canceled and 115 other flights were diverted, but thanks to diligent efforts and close coordination with our partners, we were able to reschedule flights, strengthen the workforce, and provide assistance to all travelers affected by flight cancellations or Delays, in order to ensure their comfort and safety.

The sources explained that Dubai airports have witnessed exceptional weather conditions, and their employees and partners have worked tirelessly to keep operations running as much as possible and assist guests, It is worth noting that 31 flights were diverted to Dubai World Central (DWC) on April 19 to ensure the continuity of passenger flights and Support was successfully provided to all guests at the airport to enable them to continue their travels.

The sources reported that the well-being of guests is the top priority of Dubai Airports, and despite the initial challenges in transporting supplies due to the closure of roads around Dubai International and Dubai World Central airports, Dubai Airports was able to distribute more than 75,000 packages of snacks to affected passengers through both airports.

Dubai Airports advised passengers to arrive at the passenger terminal only three hours before the departure time of their flights to avoid unnecessary crowding and facilitate the smooth running of operations while resuming normal operations.
