UAE to launch 23,500 vacancies in the travel and tourism sector within 2024

Asma Ahmed - | UAE

In a decade, projections indicate that the travel and tourism sector will encompass 928,000 positions, employing approximately one out of every nine residents.

Julia Simpson, the President and CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), forecasts a continual expansion in the sector's role within the UAE economy. This year alone, an additional 23,500 jobs are anticipated, bringing the total employment count to 833,000 by 2024. Simpson anticipates a rise in the sector's contribution to the UAE's GDP, reaching 12 percent and amounting to Dh236 billion.

Projections indicate that the UAE's allure for international visitors will fuel substantial spending growth, with a nearly 10 percent increase to Dh192 billion and a 4.3 percent rise in domestic spending to nearly Dh58 billion. Simpson emphasizes the significant investment the UAE government has directed toward the sector, applauding its success in surpassing global tourism destinations.

According to the 2024 Economic Impact Research (EIR) report by WTTC, job creation in the UAE's travel and tourism sector surged by 41,000 in 2023, totaling over 809,000 jobs, representing one in every nine jobs in the country. The sector's unprecedented growth, exceeding previous records, underscores its pivotal role in the UAE's economic landscape.

Furthermore, the Middle Eastern travel and tourism sector experienced remarkable growth, surpassing $460 billion in 2023, with nearly 7.75 million jobs created. International spending increased by 50 percent to $179.8 billion, while domestic spending rose by 16.5 percent to over $205 billion. WTTC anticipates continued growth throughout 2024, with the region's GDP contribution expected to reach $507 billion. Job forecasts suggest reaching 8.3 million, with international and domestic visitor spending projected to surpass $198 billion and $224 billion, respectively.

The UAE's travel and tourism sector's robust expansion exemplifies its pivotal role in driving economic growth, underpinned by strategic investments and a commitment to enhancing visitor experiences. As the sector continues to set global benchmarks, it underscores the importance of sustainable strategies for fostering prosperity for the nation and the broader Middle Eastern region.
